Amenia Monarchs 14 Torrington Rebels 3
With the threat of storms, the night was perfect at Fuessenich Park in Torrington. It was the Torrington Rebels who showed the personality of the league as just before the game started, Rebel head coach Greg Bodnar, and announcer/old friend Angelo Calabrese took time out to honor the one year anniversary of the passing of Amenia Monarchs “Team Mom” Deb Downey with a moment of silence. True class act and the utmost respect from the Downey family to the Rebels. Just another show of Tri-State representation on the field from two teams who role model our league both on and off the field.
The Monarchs won the game 14-3. Travis Hyatt again had a solid start for the Monarchs going 5 innings giving up 6 hits and just 1 earned run. Offensively Amenia had 12 hits led by Andrew Thrasher 3-4 3RBI, Dylan Sartori 1-3 3RBI, and Tom Finnerty 2-4. For the Rebels Jason Tyrrel went 2-2.
Wolcott Scrappers 8 Litchfield Cowboys 7
Justin Koutros went the distance scattering seven hits and allowing four earned runs. Elvis Martinez doubled twice, singled, drove in three and scored twice. Jesse Vermeech added an RBI single. Manny Rijo singled for Litchfield.
Wolcott and Litchfield are now 3-4.
Naugatuck Dogs 10 Winsted Whalers 0
Kevin Murray picked up the win pitching 5 shut out innings allowing 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4 to lead Naugy 10-2 over Winsted at Rotary Field. The Dogs were led by Devin Murphy (3-4 HR, 3 RBI, SB) and Ryan Plourde (2-2 HR 2 RBI, 3 R, SB). Brendan Slattery added 3 hits while Macky Cianciolo and Trent Levi each drove in a run for Naugy. Johnny Lippincott and Ben Schumacher each had 2 singles for Winsted.
Classic Quote of the Day: (from years ago) –
Carl Rivers, Tri-State Hall-Of-Fame Pitcher and former Litchfield Cowboys head coach addressing a new player trying out for the team: “During the game, we don’t argue with the other team and we don’t say boo to the umpires, we instead focus on having fun and breaking each other’s stones, while playing hard on the field. If this is the type of atmosphere you are looking for than you are welcome to join us. If this not the type of atmosphere you are looking for than I suggest you find another team to play for.”
