Litchfield Cowboys  10  Torrington Rebels  4
The Litchfield Cowboys improved to 8-1 in the Tri-State Baseball League with a 10-4 win over the Torrington Rebels on a steamy Thursday evening at Litchfield High School. Torrington struck first for two runs in the top of the first inning, but Litchfield responded with four in the bottom of the inning, including two runs on a double by Chris Blazek (2-for-3, sac fly, 3 RBI). Two more came home in the bottom of the second, then the Cowboys tacked on four more in the fourth inning. Ed Pequignot went 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored while Karl Quist added a double for Litchfield. Kevin Murray tossed a complete game (4 runs, 5 hits, 5 strikeouts, 5 walks) to pick up the win. Greg Bodnar had a two-run double in the first inning to give Torrington (4-6) a 2-0 lead. Alan Fredriksson added an RBI single in the fourth inning. Matt Keiser took the loss.
Tri-Town Trojans 3  Naugatuck Dogs 2
Tri-Town’s Miles Scribner outdueled Naugy’s Lance Stevens in a road win at Rotary Field in Naugatuck. Scribner threw a complete game and gave up two runs on six hits for the Trojans. He struck out four and walked one. On offense, Joel Judson (2 single), Steve Price (double) and Kyle Osolin (single) each drove in a run. Casey McDonald scored twice while Kyle Savo added one run scored. Lance Stevens was solid in defeat for the Dogs. He threw a complete game and gave up three runs (2 earned) on seven hits. He struck out eight and walked four. Shawn Jones drove in a run with a sacrifice fly for Naugatuck. Jerr Sturm went 2-for-4 with a run scored while Matt Kane added a run scored.
Winsted Whalers 5  Brass City Brew 1  
Charlie Putnam gave up one run in six innings in a Winsted win over Brass City at Walker Field in Winsted. Putnam gave up six hits, struck out three, and walked one. The Whalers (6-5) were able to take advantage of seven walks and a hit batter in the game. Both of Winsted’s first inning runs came in on passed balls. After a bases loaded walk to Ricky Langer in the bottom of the fourth, Putnam had a two-run single to make it 5-1. Paul Novakowski had two hits, including a double, and scored the only run for the Brew (5-4) in the second inning to make the score 2-1. Tyler King took the loss.
Bethlehem Plowboys 6  Terryville Black Sox 1  
Bethlehem’s Jon Conlon (2 hits) homered and drove in two runs in a win over Terryville at Gallup Field in Bethlehem. Tony Geraci had three hits and two RBI while Brad Goschen added a double for the Plowboys (8-1), who are tied with Litchfield for the league lead. Chris Alberto had two hits for the Black Sox (4-3). Billy Armstrong took the loss.
Amenia Monarchs 7  Lakeville Outlaws 0  
Amenia’s Zach Spencer fired a complete game two-hitter in a win over Lakeville at Doc Bartlett Field in Amenia. Tom Moore had a double, single and two RBI for the Monarchs (6-4). The Outlaws dropped to 0-10 with the loss.
Burlington Hunters 3  Waterbury Wild 2  
Burlington’s Andrew Bunger was able to get his team out of a seventh inning jam and pick up a save in a win over Waterbury. Bunger came in with the bases loaded and the Hunters (4-4) ahead 3-1. He gave up a fielder’s choice to make the score 3-2, then picked up a strikeout for the second out of the inning. After a walk reloaded the bases, Bunger got a ground out to first to end the game. Colin Pack went 1-for-2 with two RBI for Burlington. Christian Cuevas drove in run with the bases loaded walk. Joe Potemsky took the loss for the Wild.
