Burlington Hunters 7, Thomaston Threshers 5: Alex Hansen tossed five innings, struck out six and only allowed one earned run as the Hunters topped the Threshers in the first game for both clubs at Thomaston High School. Ray Ricker had the game-winning sacrifice fly in the 9th inning and finished with two RBI while Jimmy Spirito added two hits, including a double. Mike Morin, Steve Dubois and Dillon Desiderato all had two hits for Burlington (1-0). Andrew Bunger picked up the win in relief while Tommy Spirito notched the save. Will Sirotnik had two hits, including a double while Rob McHugh drove in two runs for Thomaston (0-1).
Brass City Brew 3, Waterbury Wild 0: Tyler King allowed six hits with six strikeouts over eight innings as the Brew blanked the Wild on opening day of the Tri-State baseball league at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury. Drew Jones had a base hit and two RBI while Craig Prasauckas added a hit and an RBI for Brass City (1-0). Christian Cuevas and Jordan Montgomery both had two hits for Waterbury (0-1).
Litchfield Cowboys 11, Wolcott Scrappers 2: Adam Claire went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI as the defending Tri-State champions knocked off Wolcott at Litchfield High School. Kevin Murray allowed two earned runs with six strikeouts over four innings while Colin Dickinson had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI for Litchfield (1-0). Eric Soucy, Todd Vaccarelli and Jed Perugini all had hits for Wolcott (0-1).
Tri-Town Trojans 7, Winsted Whalers 1: Miles Scribner went the distance, allowing eight hits and 10 strikeouts as the Trojans defeated the Whalers at Community Field. Steve Price had three hits with an RBI while Danny McCarty added two hits with two RBI. Joel Judson had two hits and an RBI for Tri-Town (1-0). Charlie Putnam and Tyler Dew both had two hits for Winsted (0-1).
Bristol Greeners 4, Watertown Blaze 2: Mat Niedzwiecki tossed seven strong innings, surrendered four hits and fanned seven as the Greeners took the season opener for both clubs at Deland Field in Watertown. Jimmy Hahn had three hits with an RBI while Matt Godbout, Marco Ross, Bret Clark and Brendan Hayes all had hits for Bristol (1-0). Brian LeMay had two hits with an RBI while Matt Consiglio and Vic DeSimone both had hits for Watertown (0-1).
Torrington Rebels 2, Prospect Chargers 0: Dan Livingston pitched seven scoreless innings and fanned nine, and Greg Bodnar hit in RBI double in the second for the host Rebels. Conor Bierfeldt added a sacrifice fly in the third for Torrington. Matt Keiser and Ian Pierce each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for Torrington.
Terryville Black Sox 11, Lakeville Outlaws 1: Tom Nopchok had a single and two RBI to lead the winners to an opening day victory. Joe Deming added two hits, including a double, plus an RBI; while Tyler Wenz had a run-scoring double for the Black Sox.
Naugatuck Dogs 3, Bethlehem Plowboys 0: Lance Stevens pitched a five-hitter with six strikeouts for the defending state champs. Matt Kane had two hits and an RBI for Naugy. Sean Miller-Jones added a double. Jason Krajeski allowed one earned run in seven innings for the Plowboys.
Amenia Monarchs 3, Ansonia Valley Vikings 1: Amenia scored all three runs in the first inning highlighted by a two-run homerun from Ken Schufelt. Travis Hyatt picked up the win. Amenia had 8 hits in the game while Ansonia had 9.
