Wolcott Scrappers 1 Prospect Homers 0
Justin Koutros (7 innings, 4 hits, 12 strikeouts) outdueled Mike Valente (6 hits) in a seven-inning makeup game at the BAW Complex in Wolcott Sunday afternoon, but not by much. Wolcott squeezed by Prospect 1-0. “We just couldn’t hit it past people,” said player/coach Ryan Soucy, whose Scrappers (5-0) are on top of the league, while the Homers (1-5) struggle near the bottom. Nevertheless, on Sunday, the only difference in the teams’ bottom lines was a single Wolcott run in the third inning. Mike Vaccarelli doubled, moved to third on a single and came home on a fielder’s choice by Eric Soucy.
Bethlehem Plowboys 5 Torrington Rebels 3
Torrington’s Tri-State Baseball League Rebels gave up two early runs to the Bethlehem Plowboys after lingering puddles at Fuessenich Park forced them to give up home field advantage earlier in the day. Those runs, in the top of the third inning at Gallup Field, were the difference in a 5-3 Plowboy win in which the teams went almost stride for stride the rest of the game. Veterans Jason Krajeski (9 innings, 9 hits, 11 srikeouts, 3 walks) for Bethlehem and the Rebels’ Dan Livingston (6 innings, 4 hits, 6 strikeouts, 4 walks) blanked the scoreboard in the first two innings. Then Tony Geraci (2-for-4, double, run scored) Eric O’Toole (2 RBI, run scored), and Pat McGee (2-for-4, run scored) led the Plowboys to their two-run lead in the top of the third.
Krajeski and Livingston locked it in for the next three innings. Then, with reliever Ian Pierce on board for Torrington, Bethlehem raised the ante, 3-0 in the top of the seventh. Torrington, which out-hit the Plowboys 9-7, responded with a run in the bottom of the inning. Bethlehem heaped more coals with two more runs in the eighth. The Rebels, led by Conor Bierfeldt (2-for-4), Dave Alexander (double, run scored), Jerry Colon (2-for-4, run scored) and Greg Bodnar (2 RBI) scored two in the bottom of the ninth, but they couldn’t get past those first two Plowboy runs. Bethlehem is 4-1; Torrington is 3-2.
Watertown Blaze 16 Prospect Homers 0
In the first game of two for the Homers, Justin Froese tossed six innings with seven strikeouts, and the Blaze pounded out 18 hits in 16-0 win over Prospect. Connor McEvoy collected three hits and drove in four runs while Chris Ayer contributed two hits, including a double, and four runs scored for Watertown (4-1). Mike Docchio doubled for Prospect.
Saturday June 11
Litchfield Cowboys 5 Lakeville Outlaws 0
In a game that went only 5 innings due to weather, including a 30 minute rain delay after the 3rd inning, Litchfield remained undefeated knocking off the first-year Outlaws. Kyle Hawes recorded the shutout and Chris Peruse pitched well for Lakeville suffering the loss.
All other games from Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday were rained out.
