Amenia Monarchs 5 CTL Rockies 4

The country boys from Amenia would make the trip down to the metropolis of Waterbury Saturday afternoon for a Inter-league matchup against the CTL’s Rocky Hill Rockies. A pitchers duel would be on the menu as both teams struggled to produce of the days tough pitching. Monarchs newcomer Mike “ The Lion” Cipriano took the ball once again and had another great outing for the Maroon and Gold. Cipriano would throw 3 and 2/3rds giving up 3 hits while striking out 4. Monarchs would score 2 in the first on a couple errors by the Rockies. Unfortunately for “The Lion” a couple defensive miscues in the 4th would allow the Rockies to go up 4-2 on 4 unearned runs. In the 5th Amenia would get things going with singles of the bat of Will Perotti, Andrew Thrasher, and Nathan Lachaine. Monarchs big man Ken Shufelt would cause an error by the Rockies 2nd baseman with his blazing speed! The fielders were in such awe of the lighting quick 90 ft. dash that they forgot about Andrew Thrasher rounding third and scoring the second run of the play. A perfectly placed Sac bunt by Monarchs player/Manager Tom Downey would push Lachaine to 3rd to setup a Mackenzie Dunlop fielders choice scoring Lachaine and taking the lead 5-4. Colby Dunlop would shut the door for Amenia pitching 3 1/3 innings giving up just 2 hits and no runs. Amenia enjoyed its time in the city, as many of the guys had never seen so many buildings, or so much asphalt! Amenia improves to 8-1 on the season..
