Rex Cone hurls no-hitter for Bristol

Bristol Greeners 3, Prospect Hearts 0:  Bristol’s Rex Cone came within one strike of a perfect game before an 0-2 curveball grazed the sleeve of Prospect’s leadoff batter with two-outs in the bottom of the seventh.  Cone still finished the game with a no-hitter and 12 strikeouts in his first start on the mound as a Bristol Greener.  The Greeners scored in the bottom of the first after an RBI-double by Dru Sgro plated Ryan Dudzinski.  Bristol added two more in the fourth after a leadoff double by Shawn Mirmina, a sac fly off the bat of Dudzinski, and a RBI-groundout from Dan Rosa.  Rex Cone and Bobby Hay also had hits for the Greeners.  Leadoff batter Mike Zammett walked four times and stole two bases for Bristol.  For Prospect, pitcher Mike Valente went the distance, allowing three runs on four hits and struck out three.  The win improved Bristol to 9-5 on the season.  Prospect fell to 1-13.
