Bethlehem 3, Tri-Town 2: It didn’t take long for top-seeded Bethlehem to finish off its suspended game with Tri-Town on Thursday.Following the suspension of Wednesday’s Tri-State Baseball League playoff game, the Plowboys plated a run in the bottom of the 10th inning to finally defeat the Trojans, 3-2.The game was halted after nine innings on Wednesday due to darkness with the score knotted at 2-2.The Plowboys got right to work when the game resumed. After winning pitcher Tyler Erickson tossed a scoreless top half of the 10th, Aaron Granahan led off the bottom of the frame with a single and promptly stole second.Granahan didn’t stay there long as Matt Parlato followed with double to plate him with the winning run.
On Wednesday, the Plowboys fell behind the fifth-seeded Trojans 2-0 in the first inning, but cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning. Bethlehem (19-5, 1-1 playoffs) threatened several times to tie or even take the lead throughout the contest, but couldn’t do so until the bottom of the ninth. Eric O’Toole’s sharp single to left center off of Tri-Town reliever Miles Scribner tied the game at 2. Bethlehem (21-6, 2-0) now awaits the winner of the Brass City/Watertown contest that will be finished this evening. Tri-Town faces Winsted at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Community Field in Litchfield.
Late Wednesday
Wolcott 7, Amenia 0: The second-seeded Scrappers got a dynamic performance on the mound from Justin Koutros to blank the fourth-seeded Monarchs. Koutros pitched nine innings, striking out 19 and allowing just a single hit in the third inning.Wolcott (15-9, 1-1) gave their starter plenty of support, plating three runs over the first two innings, then two more in each of the fifth and eighth frames.Adam LaCapra had three hits, an RBI and a run scored, while Ryan Soucy had two hits, including a two-run triple. Justin Miller and Zack Sehnal each had two hits and an RBI, while Eric Soucy chipped in with a two-run single.The Scrappers now face Naugutuck at 8 p.m. at the BAW Complex in Wolcott.Amenia (11-13, 0-2) is now finished.
No. 8 Bristol Greeners 12, No 12 Tribury Pavers 1: Just three days after he pitched a complete game win over Amenia, Bristol pitcher Mike Hay was back on the mound against Tribury Wednesday evening at Muzzy Field.Blanking Tribury for the game’s first seven innings, Hay and his defense allowed just four Paver hits in nine innings. Tribury’s sole run came in the top of the eighth.The Greeners jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first, added 2 in each of the second and third innings, then four more in the fourth. Doug Beaudoin (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Dan Rosa (2-for-5, RBI), Matt Beaudoin (2-for-4, RBI) and Dave Casanova (2-for-3, 2 RBI) were the big hitters for Bristol.
The Pavers, 10-14, 0-2 playoffs bow out for the season. Bristol, 14-11, moves on in the double elimination tournament, 2-1.
No. 6 Naugatuck Dogs 1, No. 10 Terryville Black Sox 0: Pitching was the feature at Fuessenich Park’s late game Wednesday night. Naugatuck’s Lance Stevens pitched a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts. Tyler Wenz pitched a five-hitter for Terryville with 12 strikeouts.The difference was a solo home run by Naugatuck’s Bob Augelli in the second inning.The loss eliminates Terryville, 11-13, 0-2 playoffs.Naugatuck is 15-10, 2-1 in the tournament.
