UPDATE: The Watertown Blaze defeated the Naugatuck Dogs on Saturday July 30 to become the 2016 Stan Musial State Champions – Congratulations!!
Recap: The Watertown Blaze won the Stan Musial State Championship game with an 8-0 victory over the Naugatuck Dogs in 6 innings at Pat Wall Field in Wallingford. The Blaze pitching staff remained on fire as Kyle Kennedy and Matt Quintana combined to allow 2 hits while striking out 8. The Blaze staff allowed only 4 runs over the 5 game state tournament. Chris Comeau led the offense with 3 hits including a 2 run home run while Conor McEvoy added 3 hits including an RBI double.
Two teams from the Tri-State Baseball League on Friday July 29 secured their entry into the AABC World Series that begins Thursday August 4th. The Watertown Blaze eliminated the Stradford Storm 2-0 and the Naugy Dogs exploded against the Downtown Merchants 16-2 to remain as the only 2 teams standing in the Stan Musial State Tournament. The two teams square off today (Saturday July 30) at Pat Wall Field in Wallingford at noon. A second game will follow immediately if necessary. Naugy must defeat the Watertown twice to defend their state title. The state champion has now come from the Tri-State Baseball League each of the past six seasons: Naugatuck Dogs (2015), Tri-Town Trojans (2013-2014), Naugatuck Dogs (2011-2012).
It was announced by CABC President Tony Santoro that two more teams have applied and been accepted to come into this years AABC Stan Musial World Series. The 10 teams registered are now:
Two teams from the Houston Texas Regional, Pittsburgh PA regional, New Jersey State Champ, Massachusetts state champ, Upper NY Albany regional, Upper NY Syracuse regional and NY Metro/Federation regional champ and the top two qualifiers from the CT Stan Musial state tournament (Watertown Blaze and Naugatuck Dogs)
World Series games will be played at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Fuessenich Park in Torrington, and Deland Field in Watertown from Thursday August 4th through Sunday August 7th. This will be a standard double-elimination tournament.
