Valley Thunder 10 Blasius Chevrolet 9
Neck to neck battle between two aggressive teams concludes with The Thunder stealing away their 4th win. Thunder tallied 12 hits with Matt Meier belting out 3 hits (2 doubles, 1 single, 4 RBIs) and Tyler Pelletier with 2 RBIs single. Sean Begly pitched six strong innings scattering 6 hits allowing 3 runs after coming in for the starting pitcher. Ricky Parenteau closed the game allowing only 1 run. Steve Carosella (3 2Bs, single, 3 R) and Justin McCulloch (3R HR and a single)led the charge for Blasius. Thunder looks to roll into Naugatuck for their next game Thursday.
Bristol Greeners 5 Naugatuck Dogs 3
The Bristol Greeners defeated the Naugatuck Dogs 5-3 today at Bristol Central High School. Jerry LaPenta threw a complete game in a 153-pitch outing, giving up two earned runs and striking out eight batters. At the plate, LaPenta, A.J. Lorenzetti, Ben Mazzone, Jaeden Rasmus, and Zach Bartolome had big hits. For Naugatuck, Jeff Sturm and Mackey Cianciolo has two hits each, while Trent Levi had a double.
Terryville Black Sox 1 Winsted Whalers 0
The Terryville Black Sox improved to 5-0 on the season with a 1-0 win over the Winsted Whalers. The Sox continue to ride strong pitching performances as Billy Armstrong and Kenny Kerski combined to allow 2 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 13. Kyle Skidmore remains to be one of the bright spots in the struggling Black Sox lineup providing 2 doubles and the lone RBI. Rob Wiess pitched very well for Winsted going 8 innings, scattering 5 hits while striking out 6.
Tribury Twisters 11 Burlington Hunters 2
Ben Guisto pitching seven strong for the twister. Jordan Mass finished up the last two innings while give up no hits and he also added two hits at the plate. Evan DeVico added in three hits and Tom Rinaldi added in two hits. John DeLucia added in three hits as well.
Southington 66ers 15 Canton Crushers 9
The Southington 66ers defeated the Canton Crushers 15 to 9 under the lights at Recreation Park in Southington. For the 66ers, Zach Albin pitched the first 5 innings allowing 1 hit while striking out 10, and Sean Rivera closed out the game pitching a strong 9th. Pat Smith had a big day at the plate with 5 hits. Tim Jalbert had a multi-hit game including a solo home run. Joe Daigle, Pat Raymond, Josh Dobratz, Junior Nichols, and Matt Santovasi chipped in with multi-hit, multi-rbi games. For the Crushers, Taylor Riley tripled and Jake Bryant, John Mehal, and Ian Basset added hits.
Wolcott Scrappers 7 Bethlehem Plowboys 3
Tyler Smith threw a complete game, allowing seven hits and striking out five to lead Wolcott. Jack Drewry broke the game open in Wolcotts six run second inning with a bases clearing double. Drewry also added an rbi single. Ryan Soucy had three hits including an RBI double, while Mike Perugini had two hits and an RBI. Pat O’Neill started on the mound for the Plow – Rob Geraci threw well with 5 innings of scoreless relief. Mike Chiovitti had a two run single for Bethlehem. Wolcott 4-3, Bethlehem 3-3
Saturday June 9
Amenia Monarchs 3 East Mountain Cougars 2
The Amenia Monarchs came away with a 3-2 win Saturday over the East Mountain Cougars. Both teams played a good baseball game and the fans were happy to watch! East Mountain got on the board in the top of the 1st with a couple of base hits by Bowes (1-3) and Shafer (3-4, 1rbi). Monarchs tied it right back up in the bottom of the 1st with a single by Chris Reed (2-3) and double by Tyler Smith (1-3,1rbi). Travis Hyatt, the veteran pitcher from the Monarchs, started his first game of the season and did the same thing that he’s done for the last 14 years, throw strikes. Hyatt went 6 innings scattering 5 hits giving up 1 run and not walking a batter. Leshawn Thrasher came in relief for Amenia throwing the last 3 innings. Thrasher gave up 1 run over 3 consecutive hits by the first 3 batters he faced. Big Ken Shufelt got the fans excited when he got a cougars player in a rundown and helped Thrasher out with a big out. Thrasher settled in and gave up no more hits while striking out 4. With the score tied at 2-2 Will Perotti came thru for Amenia in the bottom of the 7th with a long double to start the inning. He then moved to 3rd on a single from Ken Shufelt and the scored on a sac fly from Leshawn Thrasher. That put the Monarchs up 3-2. Monarchs play June 14 at home vs. Torrington.
Tri-Town Trojans 4 Litchfield Cowboys 2
Trojans and Cowboys met again on the Saturday of road race weekend. A long tradition! Mike Odenwaelder and Miles Scribner took to the mound for each team and both went the distance on the bump. Scribner had 9ks, 0 walks, and gave up 2 runs on 9 hits for the Trojans and Odenwaelder had 8ks, 2 walks, and gave up four runs on 9 hits. Trojans were down 2-1 going into the bottom of the 8th when they talked to score three. Casey McDonald walked, stole second, went to third on a passed ball. Mike Grassi hit a single to score McDonald. Landon Gardella singled and McCarty hit a double to right center to score Grassi and take the lead for the Trojans. Trojans added another run to give some room for Scribner on the bump. Kyle Osolin, Grassi, Gardella, and Coleby Bunnell all had two hits to lead the Trojans offense. Cowboys were lead by Colin Dickinson (2hits,rbi) and Odenwaelder (3 hits) at the plate.
